(also known as a Registered Agent or Resident Agent)

The registered agent is designated by a corporation or LLC to receive, on their behalf, important legal and tax documents including notices of litigation (lawsuits), annual reporting forms, and franchise tax forms. Most states require that the registered agent be either an individual or company residing in that state. A corporation's registered agent is a matter of public record. State law defines the requirements and responsibilities of an agent for service of process.
